YOU HAD ME AT HOLA BY ALEXIS DARIA // BOOK REVIEW

As a hopeless fan of telenovelas (Marimar, Pasión de Gavilanes, Triunfo del Amor, Cuandome Enamoro, Jane the virgin and Ugly Betty)….. #YouHadMeAtHolla was such an absolute cute read. Too cute as a matter of fact.⁣

Alexis Daria brings us on an unforgettable, hilarious rom-com journey set in the drama-filled world of telenovelas. Steamy and incredibly romantic.

Jasmine Lin Rodriguez returns to to her hometown of NY to film the starring role in a latinx romantic telenovela (after a messy breakup) with Aston Suarez as her costar (whose acting career is dwindling after his last telenovela character was killed off,).⁣

With their careers on the line, Jasmine and Ashton agree to rehearse in private. While trying to make to make it work to generate smoking-hot on-screen chemistry together. But rehearsal leads to kissing, and kissing leads to a behind-the-scenes romance worthy of a soap opera. While their on-screen performance improves, the media spotlight on Jasmine soon threatens to destroy her new image and expose Ashton’s most closely guarded secret.

MY THOUGHTS

I loved Jasmine’s cousins and their love and support for each other (such girl power). It was always a LOL moments in their scenes especially their group chats.

Appreciated glimpse of the latinx culture and mother tongue cited in the book. I actually listened to the audiobook version though, so you can imagine how I feel.

Although this was just a story, but I felt it was two….. How so?

The telenovela that Jasmine and Ashton was actually working/staring on was so romantic as well (a typical telenovela romance with it’s angst and drama). I felt fully involved like i was among the cast and crew while bts.

The Fun Part:

Talk about steamy, chemistry, romance…. It was packed and i wanted more. This was a delightful read, and am sure you’ll love it.
